How Strategic Coach® entrepreneurs are multiplying their income while working less.

A Medical Practice Transformed
In the Strategic Coach® Program, facial plastic surgeon Peter Adamson dramatically multiplied his practice’s results — and his free time.
Life as a solo practitioner.
Peter Adamson is a board certified facial surgeon and the head of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto. He’s also come to see himself as an entrepreneur whose passion is making a difference in people’s lives through medicine.
Throughout his career he’s been successful, yet 15 years ago, he reached a point where he felt he was missing “something elusive.” Instead of being able to enjoy this work he loved, he was fighting a rising tide of concerns:
- His expenses were soaring, but his revenue stayed the same.
- He was too exhausted by maintaining the business to acquire new patients or pursue growth opportunities.
- Constant phone calls, meetings, and other interruptions hampered his productivity and kept him from devoting time to his patients—which was his highest priority.
- A staff of two or three was all he felt the practice could afford, and he didn’t feel comfortable delegating tasks to them.
- Working six days a week in the practice, then at home on Sundays, frustrated him: Not only was he not using his time well, he worried he “wasn’t there much” for his family.
“I think most physicians and surgeons do enjoy their work, but there was the sense of frustration that I was working too hard for the enjoyment I was getting out of it.”
Wanting to grow, learn, and change.
When a friend recommended the Strategic Coach Program, Peter immediately recognized how it could benefit him. He’d always loved learning and changing, and the Program offered him a structure for accomplishing his goals:
- Achieving business growth of 50 percent within the first year.
- Developing additional revenue streams for the practice that wouldn’t be completely dependent on his time.
- Learning how to delegate so he could spend more time with his patients in revenue-generating activities, and with his family.
“The Coach really helps you improve your life organization because it gives you some really good tools to work with. You can read all kinds of business books, but they don’t really tell you what to do at the end of the day. They’re interesting concepts; whereas, Dan gives you these great tools.”
Evolving his medical practice.
In the Program, Peter clarified his role in the practice and started to explore other ways to bring in money. He also identified his lifetime goals and was able to make some of them a reality:
- Bringing in other specialists added value, billable services to the practice that didn’t require any more of his time.
- Building his own operating rooms and renting them out to other surgeons created another brand-new revenue stream.
- Using the Program’s teamwork principles, he expanded his support team and delegated tasks to them, gaining the freedom and energy to focus on patients and on cultivating new business opportunities.
- He wrote a book, Fabulous Faces, to help people understand the possibilities and considerations of plastic surgery.
- Through the humanitarian foundation he established, he and a team of other surgeons provide reconstructive surgery for children in less fortunate nations.
- Giving himself breaks with no business-related activity allowed him to strike the work-life balance he always wanted.
“I believe so much in the whole concept of being present in the moment, because after all, if you maximize every moment of your life, you’re maximizing your life’s potential, and that’s something I’ve found extremely useful.”
Exponential results and possibilities.
The Program started paying off for Peter immediately, and in the subsequent years, he’s continued to achieve bigger and bigger results:
- Peter doubled his practice’s revenue within three years of joining the Strategic Coach Program.
- Now 15 years in, he’s raised his gross revenues to five times what they were, and his take-home earnings are five times greater too.
- Having a team of trusted associates means he can run multiple businesses and make a difference for more people at home and abroad.
- Each year, he takes an average of 120 quality days off, and he feels like he can be truly present with others—at work and away from it.
- He and his wife are enjoying "better-funded" vacations.
- Having a plan and an overall philosophy about his work gives him a great sense of confidence and contentment about his life.
“If you have the urge to do something, and you’re willing to take responsibility for your future, Strategic Coach has a great set of tools as well as attitudes that can help you create the life you want for yourself.”
